Bar/Bat Mitzvah Training

Temple Kol Ami’s Hebrew education program begins in earnest when a student reaches the fourth grade. We limit admission to our Hebrew programs to 40 children per class, so that each child is guaranteed to be the only celebrant at her/his Bat/Bar Mitzvah ceremony. Six to eight months prior to the child’s special day, she or he is brought into individual tutoring with the Temple Hebrew staff, which includes the Rabbi. Students are introduced to their Torah portion and, through the weekly private tutorial sessions, learn to read or chant their portion. Each student is seen as an individual with unique capabilities, and no student is asked to accomplish more than their ability allows. At Temple Kol Ami we understand the ceremony of Bar or Bat Mitzvah to be a celebration, and not an examination. We are proud of our ability to make every one of our B’nei Mitzvah feel a great personal sense of accomplishment and self-worth!

Temple Kol Ami is pleased to announce that it has become an official partner with Valley Beit Midrash (VBM). VBM is a collaborative adult education program that brings new, exciting and relevant Jewish learning to the Greater Phoenix Jewish community in a diverse, welcoming, engaging and pluralistic setting.

In this course we will consider different theological responses to the horrors of the Shoah. From ultra-Orthodox rabbis writing at the time of the Shoah to scholars writing decades after the event, we will consider a wide range of responses to the fundamental questions posed by the holocaust.

Cost $60 for 5 sessions
