Religious School

Temple Kol Ami's Religious School, directed by Vicki Miles, is designed to help children learn about and make personal connections with the great ideas and traditions of the Jewish people. Our curriculum includes holiday observances, Torah study, Hebrew, ethics and values and Jewish history. Our wonderful volunteer faculty and madrichim (high school assistants) help our students explore the richness of Judaism through stories, discussions, debates, arts and crafts, music and dance, cooking, and drama. Our Hebrew program focuses on reading and understanding Shabbat and weekday prayers. Weekly services, social action projects, Maccabia Games, Gaga tournaments and school-wide holiday celebrations also enhance and enrich our overall program.

Kindergarteners through third grade meet Sunday mornings from 9:30 - 12:00. Grades 4 - 7 also meet Sundays from 9:30 - 12:00 and on Wednesdays from 4:30 - 6:00. Eighth grade meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30 - 12:00 and once a month on Sunday evening with Rabbi Herring. Pre-K students meet once a month on Sundays from 9:30 - 12:00 in our special four year old class called Chaverim. The emphasis for this class is the holidays including Jewish foods and symbols.

This year we are pleased to announce that Hannah Adelman has been appointed Coordinator of Hebrew Studies. She will be instrumental in selecting Hebrew materials and assisting teachers. She will continue to teach 4th grade Hebrew on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Our Tuesday Bar/Bat Mitzvah training program provides one-on-one mentoring to prepare students for their special day. This program starts approximately 6 to 8 months before your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
